I won best in the Country category for my song "Timeless You" in the 2008 ABC 1233 Newcastle Music Awards. I was actually sick on the night of the awards and I was really looking forward to the night, you know putting on a dress and getting all dolled up, if you ask me, anything will do for an excuse to go all out in that department and although I wasn't present to receive my award on the night, I was just as surprised when I received the phone call the next day, I couldn't believe it, I totally wasn't expecting that at all! Anyway I better fly, Hope you're well! Keep smiling and keep those emails coming in! Signing off, Kelly Tags: The 2008 "Southern Stars"- Independant Country Music Awards of Australia by Kelly 8/15/2008 12:33:00 AM Hey Everyone, Some more great news! I got home from Nashville to find out that I'm a finalist in this years 2008 "Southern Stars"- Independant Music Awards of Australia for my song "You're Not My Ute" I just wanted to take the time now to thank my co-writers, Bill Warner and Gary Melbourne. This song has been such a hoot! I Couldn't have done it without you guys, thank you. "You're Not My Ute" has been a really popular song with so many people requesting it on the Country Music Channel and also all over Australian Radio. It's now getting played overseas. Although every interview I do I'm always asked, What is a 'UTE'. Of course us Australians know exactly what a 'UTE' is, but to the Americans it just sounds funny. Thank you to everyone for requesting my song, your support hasn't been un noticed. You GUYS ROCK!!!!! Keep smilin! Kelly Tags: Home Sweet Home by Kelly 8/14/2008 8:32:00 PM Well I'm home from Nashville and I'm so glad. It was the trip from hell back from Nashville. I spent about 7 Hours in the Nasvhille airport waiting for the next plane to LA. Not sure what was going on, but all the planes to New York were cancelled and they weren't allowing air traffic, so most planes were redirected to Chicago, which is where I was connecting through to LA on. The delays were so bad which meant I was going to miss all my connecting flights, including my flight back to Sydney. So United put me with another airline "Frontier" which would get me into Denver and connect to LA, just in time for my flight to Sydney. So everything from then on, ran smoothly. I met some guys on the flight who were from Denver, we chatted our bums off, which made the flight go by extremely fast, time just flew by! I got into LA with almost exactly 1 hour to connect to my flight to Sydney, I was so happy! I couldn't believe the flight actually arrived on time for once. So I pushed through the crowds with my guitar and many handbags, almost running to the next terminal (lucky I'm fit, as it was a long way to the next terminal, LA is huge!) I was surprised no one was in line at the check in counter, I didn't think for one moment that I had missed the flight, well not untill the lady looked at her watch and said, can I help you? I was like yes, I've missed it haven't I? She said, that it had been closed for half an hour, I tried everything to see if they could just push me through. But No go, it was 12pm by this stage, I had no where to go and I just wanted to be home. What the hell I was going to do for 24 hours until the next flight out of LA. Just as well United put me up for the night in a really nice hotel and gave me a food voucher, cause I was ropeable, I could have almost punched someone, well maybe not someone, but something! It was a relief to find out that there were plenty of other people in the same situation! I had to be checked out of the Hotel by 12 noon the next day, at least I could have a nice shower and get some rest. Although just wait, I'll pause and tell you the lesson that I've learnt from this trip. Never leave your house without packing a spare pair of underwear and socks. Cause although I had a shower, I was getting back into my old smelly clothes, which I had been wearing for 2 days so far. Anyway, the next morning came around really quickly, I felt good, but there was no way I was going to sit in that LA airport for any longer than I needed to. So I checked out of the Hotel and thought I might sit at the bar and watch the olympics or read my book. But you know me, I have the smallest attention span and that became really boring. I checked out the Hotel and found a quiet place where I wrote a song for the next 4 hours. Next thing I knew it, it was almost 6:30pm, my flight left at 10:30pm. so I thought I'd better make moves to get to the airport and check in, have some food and chill out! Not that I needed to, it felt like I had been chilling out for days now! I boarded the plane and sat next to a really nice girl from Perth, we got a long like a house on fire! Man us VIRGO's You can't shut us up! heheh........ I found out that she had also missed her connecting flight to Sydney and she was on the same flight from Denver as me, what a co-incidence, only she didn't get accommodation for the night. 14 hours flew, we slept most of the way, watched a few movies, read a mag or two, gotta love goss. We were both really worried about our luggage, because I had spent about half an hour prior to the flight, talking with this American girl making sure my bags were on the plane with me. She had no hesitation, but to say, they will be on the carosel when I get into Sydney. Could anything else go wrong on this extremely painful trip home? Well you guessed it, last bags were called and my luggage was no where to be seen. Infact, I'm still waiting for my luggage! All I can say is next time I'm heading to Nashville or anywhere overseas, Qantas all the Way! Kelly Tags: I won "Best in Show" @ the 2008 Nashville Star Search Competition by Kelly 8/14/2008 8:09:00 PM Hey Everyone, Great News, I competed in the 2008 Nashville Star Search Competition, right in the heart of Nashville and I took out the Major prize, "Best in Show." I won a recording contract, as well as Artist development. I'm so excited, I couldn't believe it when they announced me as the winner, I was so nervous going up to collect the prize. I was thinking things like, "This just never happens to me, it's the kind of thing you see on the movies, it's not real!" But I had to pinch myself a couple of times just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I was really happy with my performance on the day, so I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best, all you can do is your best in those situations and just wait and see. No need to knock yourself up about it. I had a great time in Nashville, I met some amazing people and I was glad I got to experience this with them. So now that I'm home and trying to get over jet lag, I have alot of work to do, and I'm hoping to head over again in February sometime. I'll keep you up to date with it all. Keep smiling! Kelly Tags: Goodbye Nashville by Kelly 8/10/2008 4:07:00 PM Hey Everyone, Well unfortunately my trip to Nashville is almost over! I start my extremely long trip home tomorrow afternoon. Lets hope this time I don't have to spend 12 hours in the LA International Airport, where on my way over, I had to guard my dear life and all my belongings. You Know, there are 2 reasons why I don't want to leave Nashville. It's way too cold back home right now and I don't wanna leave the heat behind! I suppose you don't hear many people saying they LOVE the heat, and they wouldn't be glad to see the end of it! Well for me, I just Love Summer. Give me 40 degree heat any day over below 10 temps. Oh, I must not forget the great friends I've made including my songwriter friends and My American Mum(Mom) and Dad, Kirsti and Bill Warner, they have looked after me so well, and I will miss them so much. You know they will just have to make a trip to Australia and I can play the Host. Anyway I better fly, I've got a lot of good byes and teary eyes to make before I leave. Star jumps at the back of the Plane released some energy I needed to burn off. If there's a down fall to being an exercise aholic, I think I've found it, just way too much energy to burn, and sitting down just doesn't cut it. So I got into LA on Saturday, I spent 3 & 1/2 hours waiting in a line, just to get through customs alone. I than missed my connecting flight to Chicago, which meant I had to spend 12 hours in LA Airport. As you probably know, that's not the best place to be just 'hanging around,' not to mention trying to get some shut eye. I was really fortunate to have met this girl from Sydney who works for Louis Vuitton, she was on the same flight as me, not heading to Nashville but to Paris via her aunts place in Washington, DC. With 12 hours to kill, we decided to go shopping, like every girl does for a little retail therapy and headed towards the Fox City Mall. 12 hours just flew, and eventually I got the red eye flight out of LA to Chicago and then a quick change onto Nashville. I arrived well, only to find that half my luggage made it to Nashville. I was really lucky my guitar made it and the least important bag, was the one lost. Phew!!!!! The first few days of college were really challenging, I had Jet Lag big time. Plus the weather has really knocked me around. It's the humidity that really gets you everytime. I'm not used to that! But all is well, STUDY STUDY STUDY, I'll say;) I have a long week ahead of me, so I best be getting some hard earned rest! Hope all is well, remember "Keep it County" Kelly Tags: nashville!!! 8 Days until Nashville! by Kelly 7/17/2008 9:27:00 PM Hey Everyone, My, how time fly! Writing with some of the America's top songwriters is a little daunting! I'll be attending workshops focusing on developing my skills in the music industry. After the college, I've taken some time to song write for my new album, do the good ole touristy thing and take up sight seeing and of course hang out in a honky tonk bar, where some of the best known country music is heard on the planet! I'll keep you up to date on what's been happening via my website and myspace/facebook. Hope you're all well, just remember keep smiling and keep it country!
